WHAT IS THE BECHDEL BRIGADE?
The Bechdel Brigade is a powerful posse of Lesbian, Bi, and Queer women+ who believe in diverse, honest, and bold theatre representing our intersectional communities. Brigadiers gather for special affinity night performances, events, panels, and get-togethers!

HOW CAN I JOIN?
Joining the Brigade is easy! Make a $60 donation to MOXIE Theatre – in honor of Alison Bechdel’s birth year – with “Bechdel Brigade” in the notes, to join the Brigade for 2 years. You’ll be added to all Bechdel Brigade communication right away!
You do not have to identify as lesbian, bi, or queer to join – but you might have more fun that way!
Under 30? We have a special place in our hearts for young, queer women+. You can join the Brigade with a donation of just $30 or by volunteering as an usher for a Bechdel Brigade night. Just Email: bechdelbrigade@wp.moxietheatre.com.
WHY “BECHDEL”
The Bechdel Brigade is named after Alison Bechdel, an American cartoonist and writer who coined the “Bechdel-Wallace Test”, used to evaluate whether works of fiction give fair representation to women. Alison Bechdel created the cartoon strip “Dykes to Watch Out For” and her graphic memoir “Fun Home” is now a Tony Award-winning musical.
Her name is our rallying cry to support queer women+ voices in theatre and inspire queer women+ to use their voices in our communities.

Interested in supporting the Bechdel Brigade as a group leader? We need enthusiastic lesbian, bi, and queer women+ to help us organize events, outings, and good vibes.
Not the leading type? You can also support the Brigade by making or donating goodies for pre/post-show receptions. Because who doesn’t like to snack in community?
